New studies of figures in space

Here are a few options of figure placement as we discussed in todays class...

  1. I didn't catch your explanation in class, but I do remember the discussion from the week before. Sorry if any of this is redundant.

I'm not sure what the first option is, but the juxtaposition of the last two photos is interesting: the wall and the precipice. I think the line formation serves the figures well. A very assertive line or grid structure strongly alludes to cult themes. I wonder if any other structural shapes would serve this purpose? For example, what would a circle of figures in a room imply?

  2. thank you jaime, very insightful as usual. michael: i think these look better (especially the last 2), i'd keep exploring every angle and body formation till you get tired of it. remember to play with light and camera angles / proximities between bodies and camera 'macros'(i.e. extreme close ups for the 'gaze' as well. the most important thing for your piece—and for the images—, is that we get a sense that these people / sculptures ARE the cult followers and not the audience, and that they are staring us down as we traverse through them, or look away, or look at the wall etc.remember to use a generic male and a generic woman —all alike— to illustrate the loss of individuality and herd mentality. any its coming along, keep going till you nail it.
    questions welcome / thxs / c
