my supermodels

hey, is it just me or do my cute models look rather stupid when they are big like this?
It's like I'm trying to build a theme park. Not good!

  1. the last one is the most successful, becuase i get a sense of what its like to be there. what is missing here is CONTEXT and some interesting use of light. see how christine's sculptures come to being when lit more dramatically. think of executing these in different materials as well, maybe not all but some, evolve the material qualities of the pieces and situate them in a habitat.

  2. I think some of the upper ones aren't reading as well as they did in class because you don't have scale working for you. In class it worked well when they were tiny and I agree that the bottom one works well because it seems very large scale.
The ones where the perspective feels more moderate, sort of a "medium" view falls flat because there isn't the dramatic impact of the immersed or miniature perspective to compel the viewer.

  3. I was thinking about this again for a moment, and what seemed very key to last week was the sense of whimsy that came through both in your presentation and the models. Even your little "nubbin people" contributed to that spirit. Obviously you are trying to avoid the extreme in which they become frivolous, but perhaps that would be a characteristic you deliberately evoke in your final presentation, that isn't coming through as well in these photos.

i know what you mean. its so hard to take pictures of my models. i took some new ones last night that we can talk about in class today.

im a little bit confused about how to convey the same spontaneous and quirky feeling that they had last week.
